Creating a list of article categories by scdoody

I am new to this and need some help creating a list of my article categories.

I used the tool in the left column that helps you build tags. However, in the input field for “categories” I just put “all” because I assumed that I did not have to enter each category I want to display. This resulted in the following code:

Unfortunately, this code did not display a list of categories. Can anyone offer advice on how to get a tag that will produce a list of all categories?

Just delete the categories=“All” attribute from the above code, this attribute is needed only if you want to show specific categories.

An addendum (in case this might be of help) to redbot’s excellent response:

By using “All” you were telling Txp to display the articles from the (User-created) category of “All”.

It looked for the category “All”. It either did not find such a category, or it found the category but no articles assigned to it. And it returned empty.

To help w/ the learning curve:

Textbook can be really useful. In particular is Textbook’s Tag Reference

In reference to your specific use case:

Textbook – <txp:category_list />

Attributes Tag will accept the following attributes (case-sensitive):

• categories=“category name(s)”
  • Default: unset (all categories).
