[wiki] Updating french translation
Hi all,
I started yesterday to update the translation to french, and I have an issue with the links between english and french versions. I’m currently working on the page Talk:Index and adding a link pointing to the french translation does not make it appear under “Translations”, but rather at the bottom of the page.
EDIT: Can someone look at it and tell me if/what i am doing wrong? Nevermind, I just realized it’s not really necessary to link back to the page in english.
Also if there is any suggestion for whatever translation related I’ll be happy to hear it.

PS: It takes me some time to grasp the translation mechanism, and I try as hard as I can to not mess up things, hope I will get it right.

Hi Pascal, good to see someone is working on the translations! You can see how the translation links are done at the bottom of the page (when editing), under <!-- Keep at bottom -->.

Pascal,
Maybe you could update the French translation of this page first. You would both gain better insight to the translation process, and help French speakers who need the French instructions.
Also, you never have to translate Talk pages (Talk:Whatever). Those are just pages for discussing editorial changes to the page they are assigned to.

I don’t think it really matters. Maybe there’s something there that’s useful in French context.
The thing to understand is that Talk: pages are meant to be used for discussing editorial changes by the language group they concern. Localisation is a big, tricky issue. Even direct translations are often impossible, so there’s certainly going to be specific editorial conversations specific to a given translated page. That’s what the Talk: pages are for.
Mostly people just don’t use them, but that’s not necessarily a good thing.
