File Manager

Has anyone needed a more robust File Manager and if so, what products have you used possibly in conjunction with TXP. Or even possibly a plug in (which I may have missed)

Currently, I have a client that whos site is built on TXP. The site has a password protected section. The client now wants those users to have the ability to download pdf files. Simple enough.

My problem is, the ideal structure would be very similiar to a folder/file tree —- the current files tab — although it would allow client to upload the individual files and tag them, I believe will be cumbersome and limiting for my clients needs —-

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

FYI, client is currently using the files tab for straight uplaod of one type of file which automatically appears on the website for download.

Hope the above makes sense.

Here’s a tutorial on protected file downloads in Txp that might help with part of the problem. As to structuring things — I guess you could use a file category as the ‘root’ of the download structure and enumerate files at the various levels using a parent-child category listing plugin.

Re: File Manager

Steve:

Thanks for your quick response and I will take a look. Real simple question, but right now the password protected section is one page which you hit when you log in and it has various pieces of information and links.

Since I am sure I will need to create multiple pages for the password protected areas, how can I assure that they will only be accessable by users who have logged in.

Re: File Manager

The how-to makes use of the plugin ign_password_protect to secure access on the public side. It should take care of preventing downloads via the /file_download area on the textpattern public side and I have used it for providing per-user downloads before (configured slightly differently to the how-to I posted.) However I can’t tell you if there are any flaws in it or that your hosting account will never be compromised. You could start by asking Jeremy about his plugin or reading up on it on its own thread.

How many users are likely to be needing access to files and will they all need the same access to the same files — or will some of the users need access to some of the files and other users to other sets of files?
