Password access with full functionality

My need?

(1) A password protected site allowing users to be able to (2) change their passwords and (3) update their own details.

My problem?

I can get (1) working fine with ign_password_protect.
I can almost get (2) working using the ign_self_edit functionality but the problem I’m having is that mismatching passwords break the input form ie. you can’t re-enter correctly matching passwords. If I use mem_self_register, it simply resets the user password to a blank and spits out lots of error messages in debugging mode.
I can’t get (3) to work using the inbuilt functionality of either ign_password_protect or mem_self_register. I have managed to use smd_query but that involves inserting a lot of extra functionality in pages to handle the processing which makes the page impossible to re-use.

What have I looked at?

I have read through the full thread for ign_password_protect. I have also read through the full thread for mem_self_register. I have also read the excellent tutorial on Here’s how to create a client section on your website.

What would I like?

I assume this is the sort of functionality that lots of you have already implemented – it seems so basic for any community site (and how often do we see it in action on the web every day?).

Is anyone able to post code examples of how you got (2) and (3) to work, sort of like extending the tutorial on the client section? I have been using the trusty “trial and error” approach but it seems to be mostly error for the last couple of weeks. What would be ideal is some code that is known to work in real life.

I’ve read the plugin coding for both ign_password_protect and mem_self_register but I’m really not much wiser for the experience. I can see that there’s lots of cool functionality in there but I just can’t seem to make it work.

Thanks.

PS. Despite these frustrations, I’m enjoying coming back to Textpattern after a few years and seeing the great progress both with Textpattern itself and all of the plugins out there.
