IDE, Snippets, Expanders... of choice
Hi,
I am starting to take my web design a little more serious this year. ( I am an illustrator, but have a lot of interest in web design)
And I have been reading about IDE´s, and other tools…
I dont really use Dreamweaver or anyother programs, just a notepad, and textpattern to build my websites, but more an more I see myself taking too long in coding… or downloading the JS over and over again for each project.
Figuring out how to make that CSS menu I used ones but forgot how to use it etc….
So I was wondering how do you work?
How do you get organized?
Do you use any of these programs I have been reading about? or others? or none?

From my point of view avoid (ugly) DreamWeaver.
I’m currently using Coda and Expresso on my iMac/Mac Book Pro (best tools for designers)
If you want to code with language (PHP, javascript, and so on), choose an advanced IDE (especially if you code with OOP) like phpdesigner (Win softwear) or Aptana

Coda looks nice, and been testing it for a couple of days… 99$ seems a little too much compared to the free ones out there hehe but if its good…
Expresso looks really goo too, why use both? dont both do the same things?

I bought both with Macheist bundle (very low price) so I have to use both now ;)

I use Coda, which is a great all-in-one solution if you despise Dreamweaver. The clips feature is great for storing commonly used snippets of code and you can download lots of pre-made ones. There are even a nice selection of Textpattern-specific clips available.
You can also integrate books right into the app including the Textpattern WIKI.
And you can make TXP tags recognised and given colour syntax using this.

IDE: Komodo IDE 5.2.4 is what I use daily for coding PHP, Perl, JavaScript, HTML, CSS and Bash scripts. Syntax checking is awesome, reminding you that you left out a {(\”,.’)} with an informative popup. Since Komodo is Mozilla based, it will run on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
Snippets: I have a directory of snippets, I use Notepad++ to peruse them for copy pasting into Komodo. In Textpattern, I have a form called snippets, type file, where I keep page, form and css related snips.

If you don’t call the form anywhere you can put anything you like into it, Mark – use it as an online notepad for the admin area.

Now, add a Dropbox account (if you work in multiple locations), and cnk_versioning to the equation and you can get down to some serious bidness.

If you’re on a mac, espresso is a further option alongside textmate and coda, also with its own snippets library. Some more information in this thread.
