first time up, onyabike

Yeah, this is my first effort with txp, in fact, my first website. I’ve spent so much time trying to nut out the technical stuff that maybe the design hasn’t evolved as much as it should have. Still that 2005 look will never date, will it?

I had wanted to keep away from the usual website boxes that have been proliferating over the years, then realised that my main image is particularly well boxed and should be hitting the top and each side, ie a lot bigger, 1080 × 600.

I’ll probably let it sit for a month while I work on another site and get back to it to finalise it. There’s plenty to reshuffle around but at least most of the content is up. Just needs a few tweeks to get beyond the amateur look.

The self starting slideshow uses jquery Showcase, because it’s not thumbnail based and all the controls can end up within the 700 × 400 image frame, and be discrete. It looks exactly the same as the other pages for consistency. (There is still the odd inconsistency to hone out yet.)

Cheers,

GJ

Re: first time up, onyabike

Actually as soon as I saw the site up properly I started tweeking the presentation. Enormous thanks to Bloke for assisting to get the Showcase slideshow up and running using smd_gallery to feed the jquery beast. That now works seemlessly.

Still a couple of things that bug me but in a bit of time I guess I’ll work those out.

It’s strange to think that 6 weeks ago I had no idea what CSS, or for that matter, HTML was. Let’s say it’s been the old steepish learning curve. No better way to learn web design than actually doing it, though starting on a site with less than 97 pages and the odd 30 image slideshow may be more sensible.

I think I can confidently say that it’s looking less wimpy than what was there initially. And I prefer the pop up captions.

Pinky. Thanks for that. Somehow after looking at these images for way too much time I’m keen to get back on that bike.
