Expressionengine

I really like txp, but sometimes it seems that there is better so our txp, with more features. one of them expressionengine, which is very similar to txp. I have not used them, but just read a little documentation. wanted to know who ever uses it? any opinions? he is better than txp? harder to be there all arranged, for example for a designer?

Heh, I have never tasted tomatos, but they are very similiar to potatos. ;-)

Ziya, I suggest you to try it. It’s professional product after all, with professional quality. Not to forget that there is a free trial available. It gives you better image of the actual product.

Re: Expressionengine

Two things, among others, that EE does very well compared to TXP are user-management and forum integration. So, if you plan to use those features then EE is totally worth a look and the effort of learning a new CMS. Otherwise stick to TXP, IMVHO.

Re: Expressionengine

Old topic but have to comment. I’ve had experiences with EE before but about 6 months ago I gave it a good try and I was sold. It just gives so much more out of the box and feels a finished product. Also because of these reasons it’s also much easier to sell and train clients. I always felt with TXP that it needed enormous amount of plugins from different authors + tricks and what happens when the big update comes? Then we wait plugins to be updated. Nowadays I use EE2 for commercial projects and maintain “old” TXP-sites and maybe use TXP for small sites.

Re: Expressionengine

I find it ironic, somehow, that you’re waving bye-bye on an open source project that always lacked monetary support in order to fully develop its second wing, and prefer joining a project that comes without a download button until you pay 300$ if you want to use it the way a web agency needs to use it.

Re: Expressionengine

.. The first article given in the top post above is old. John H. use TXP for his website http://hicksdesign.co.uk/textpattern/

Re: Expressionengine

I’ve used both, neither are ‘better’ than the other, though one is free and one is $300 and looks a bit nicer aesthetically. The tagging system is quite similar (though I prefer the TXP tags logic to the EE channels myself).

Re: Expressionengine

@uli I’m not waving bye-bye to TXP just with commercial projects. With EE2 price tag I dont feel it’s issue since it’s basically nothing and in my opinion it’s totally worth it.

That’s exactly the point. 300$ is basically nothing.

Yesterday I deleted a sentence that I felt was a little overpathetic, but I think I should post it in order to make my point clearer:

If everyone using TXP in the past 6 years had considered to pay only a fraction of 300$: where would TXP be today?

It’s such a pity that you prefer carrying your cash over to the large money heap. Stay in contact with Textpattern, it will definitely undergo a skinning.
