jQuery Style - A new jQuery / CSS web design gallery

Hey everybody,

I’ve just launched my new site jQueryStyle.com – it’s a new design showcase/inspiration site that specifically looks for great sites that use jQuery in interesting a cool ways.

It’s all built on TXP, of course, and I use a number of different plugins as well as quite a few jQuery plugins.

I welcome any and all feedback as I’m always looking to improve the whole experience.

So, head on over to “jQuery Style.com“http://jquerystyle.com

hi Zander, Great looking site and with my recent interest intro jquery I added it to my bookmarks. Is there a reason why you used utf8 instead of utf-8 in your meta charset?

No there isn’t a reason for that charset, thanks for pointing it out, it must’ve been edited by mistake.

Thanks for your support

Nice&useful!

Glad to seen that, even with a huge number of plugins, all runs OK with no conflict at all!
It’s a great spot for TXP as well, according to me.

Yup, no conflicts…yet.

It will be interesting to see when/if the site has a lot of traffic, how the setup holds up.
I’m on a MediaTemple Grid Server so hopefully it should be fine.

Re: jQuery Style - A new jQuery / CSS web design gallery

Zander, I typically scoff at ‘site gallery’ sites, but I could actually see myself using this one. Finding new and interesting methods for using jQuery is something I’m interested in.

One thing I did notice was that there’s a glitch when you hover over the message: “Go to the *** site or click the site’s information link below.” Just FYI.

Also, there’s lots of jQuery going on here. images load on page scroll, fades, tooltips. Have you done any performance testing? If so, what did you find helped ease the load on the browser?

Re: jQuery Style - A new jQuery / CSS web design gallery

I know about the glitch, I’m trying to fix it at the moment; it’s a problem with the qTip plugin and the developer is fixing it as we speak. Ideally those tooltips with follow the mouse movement.

The image load/fade on page scroll is on purpose, I used the jQuery lazy load plugin to only load the images that are above the fold, then fade the rest in when the user scrolls. Did you think the fade was an error?

The site is pretty jQuery heavy, and at the moment it is holding up fine, I may need to amend that if it starts to crawl.

Oh, cool! I saw this before, and had no clue it was txp-powered. Congratulations!
