I have broken the links from index page to single articles

I have a textpattern site that I created about two years ago. I have only a few articles but every week many people read them.

Yesterday I decide to upgrade to a new Theme and the newest version of textpattern; things went badly and I messed it all up, so I started over from scratch. I reinstalled textpattern with a new database. That went OK. but then I didn’t have my old content. So I got creative or maybe just crazy. I still had the original database so I swapped the table “textpattern” from the old database to the new database. All the old articles appear now on the index page but when you click the link to see the individual article, the link it broken.

Am I out of luck or is there a way to fix these links so the article will appear?

Thanks for your indulgence if you read this far.

If you still have the original database you can certainly restore the site. You can either continue on your current path, selectively copying over data from the old database, or simply restore the original site and then take a more incremental approach to upgrading Txp version and theme. If you take the first approach, just be aware that some tables may have picked up new columns as of the new Txp version, so compare before swapping. For the second approach, easiest of all is if you have a full backup of all files; just restore that and the old database. (If you don’t have that, get a copy of the old Txp version and install that, then sub in the old database.) Once you have the old site restored, upgrade the Txp version.

Then you can have a look at changing themes. This is where much depends on your particular case; Txp really isn’t a theme-based CMS, so switching “themes” can be a fussy process.

Re: I have broken the links from index page to single articles

Thanks for the good advice. Since I have the content of the old posts in the old database and there are few of them I will just do some cutting and pasting and move them over to my new installation. I learned things about Textpattern making these mistakes and installing this theme, over all it has been a good thing.

Thanks jsoo.
