Txp implementation on an existing bilingual site

http://www.cityguesthouse.com

I’m not quite sure whether I’ve adopted the best approach to manage the two languages (english and italian)… but it seems to work ok.

I use Category 1 to define the language in the URL: eng or ita.

I then use the awesome gbp_permanent_links to creeate URLs like this:

category/section/category/title/

For example: http://www.cityguesthouse.com/eng/blog/news/welcome

I think I could have done without Category 1 and added the eng and ita bits via gbp_permanent_links (via the plain text component when building the permanent link).

Also, and this is something I’ve just thought about now, rather than creat separate pages and forms for english and italian pages I’ve could have used some conditional tags to display the correct language (for things like the form labels).

My only issue is that txp doesn’t seem to be 100% language agnostic. For example, the preview and submit forms are in english. I had to use plain ol’ HTML for the italian version.

Re: Txp implementation on an existing bilingual site

Why don’t you use MLP ?
It supports translation of sections, categories, articles, etc. into different languages.
