Explain the new Form type Section

I’m not quite sure I understand what the new form type section is for. I looked at the docs already. Can someone give me a use case example?

Re: Explain the new Form type Section

Remember that form types are just for classification purposes; they don’t imply any specific functionality. The classification of forms is mostly used on the Forms tab both for sorting the forms and for the tags builder on the left corner.

If I recall correctly, now txp:section_list and txp:category_list can work as container tags or calling a form, and that’s when it comes in handy to have them classified.

Hope that helps.

Not sure if this is correct as custom_fields used to only work in article forms. Not sure if this is still the case.

It’s not that they only work in article forms but that they only work within the context of an article, since they are part of an article, they work just fine in a misc form as long as it’s called in an article context.

Re: Explain the new Form type Section

MattD, thanks for explaining it. I began to write a short sentence to try to explain the same to Colak, but, well, my English and my semantics sometimes just suck.

I almost confused myself trying to explain it as well and I’m a native english speaker!

You’re welcome.

Re: Explain the new Form type Section

Form types have almost no inherent semantic but aid solely as a means of organization for the designer/user. One notable execption: “article” type forms are the only ones listed in the “override form” dropdown on the write screen.

I’ve also wondered about this before, so I’ve added Robert’s quote to textbook
