How do I troubleshoot .htaccess and clean urls?
I have two clients with Textpattern 4.0.8 sites on the same server. One site is running fine with clean urls, the other one only works with messy urls— I get 404 errors for each clean url request when I enable clean urls. I’ve followed all of the instructions here, and I get the same results.
The server administrator said that mod_php and mod_rewrite are active, but wouldn’t go into more detail. With one site working fine with clean urls, I’d like to find a way to bring site #2 in line, but I don’t know how to diagnose or troubleshoot the issue. I have command-line access to the linux host. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Re: How do I troubleshoot .htaccess and clean urls?
I’m still wondering if there’s any more I can do with this. Since the .htaccess files for these two sites are identical, I can only imaging that somewhere upstream the web root directories are configured differently. Is there any way, like a shell command, to output all the inherited httpd_conf/.htaccess rules in a certain directory? The server administrator of these sites is not inclined to provide support for advanced troubleshooting of this nature, and at this point both clients are committed to their current hosting arrangement
One client has asked me to set up another TXP-driven site on the same server, and I’d like to get clean urls working on site #2, or at least figure out what’s causing the problem, before moving forward.
Thank you!
