Re: asy_sitemap: Google-Sitemap (as-is/for developers)

When I click on the Extensions tab all I get is a white page saying:

Restricted Area

I should have access rights to everything on my blog, I’m the admin user. Any ideas?

Re: asy_sitemap: Google-Sitemap (as-is/for developers)

arglborps – If you are using the plugin presented in this thread, it is outdated and it will probably do that. The admin privs need to explicitly defined, which is relatively new compared to this original work. There is a post about it that was done by Mary that I can’t find at present, given she has over 600 pages of them, but if you page thru this thread it should get you to a more recent model that is current enough to use. jmd_sitemap? if you’re already using that you probably should ask in that thread.

Re: asy_sitemap: Google-Sitemap (as-is/for developers)

Hi all (and Sencer!),
I’m still a bit new to TXP, but not Google sitemaps. I’ve been reading through these 14 pages of information and am quite confused now. I have downloaded the plug-in: ASY_sitemap. I’m wondering if there is now a singular, difinitive, instruction for dummies like myself?

Thanks for creating this plug-in.

You might want to take a look at rah_sitemap which is more recent, is still supported and is very flexible.

Re: asy_sitemap: Google-Sitemap (as-is/for developers)

Hello bombsite,

You’re right, that was much easier! Thanks much for pointing me to that. I’d need your advice—if you have a moment…

If I’m doing the installation correctly, all I need to do is load the rah_sitemap plug-in. Then, go to Extensions > sitemap. Here I can exclude articles and sections I don’t want search engines to include. I can leave the current settings as is. Am I basically done?

As for getting Google to see my new sitemap (you mention that the sitemap can be accessed at /sitemap.xml.gz), am I to affix the Google “verify” tag into my documents? How does Google (or other search engines) see my sitemap?

Cheers,
- Laptophobo

Re: asy_sitemap: Google-Sitemap (as-is/for developers)

AFAIK Google looks automatically for a file sitemap.xml.gz.

But you can add your sitemap .. Go to https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/sitemap-list and add your sitemap.

Additionally it is also a good idea to add your RSS & ATOM feeds.

Edit: BTW: I see that I am using jmd_sitemap. Any infos which sitemap plug-in is most comfortable, stable, rigid and still under development?

I’ve not tried jmd_sitemap so I can’t compare. :(

Re: asy_sitemap: Google-Sitemap (as-is/for developers)

Merz1,

Thanks for the reply. However, the Google sitemap process requires that a “verify” tag be placed within the Head of the HTML document. Do you think this needs to be done on my TXP pages?

Re: asy_sitemap: Google-Sitemap (as-is/for developers)

@laptophobo Well, it depends…

Google wants the verify tag only to show the site in webmaster tools as your site with additional analytics.
The created sitemap file should be read by G. anyway.
If you don’t want to verify your (adminitrative) site ownership you have to check the server logs for G. bot sitemap requests.
