Posting files to specific directories
One set of our articles has two audio file and one image associated with each. The audio files should go into /audio and images (you guessed it) into /images.
How can I post files to these directories within textpattern? I’d prefer my client not to have to use FTP, if at all possible.
I see where I can upload images, but because of where textpattern is set up, I cannot navigate to /images (I tried entering ../../images in Admin—>Preferences—>Advanced, but it doesn’t seem to work).
Thanks for any help!

Re: Posting files to specific directories
Maybe upload audio to the files directory through the txp interface under the file tab. Works just like with images but since images isn’t working for you try posting your diagnostics here and anything else you can think of so we can help. You should be able to do what you want but something broken somewhere. Look under Admin > Diagnostics.

Re: Posting files to specific directories
Sorry for the delay in responding. I was able to get the txp interface to allow for uploading images (it was permissions). What I would really like is to be able to upload to the /images and /audio folders directly. These directories are one level above the txp directory.
Is there a hack or plugin (or just something I’m missing) to allow this?

Can you not upload to the images directory through the TXP Interface? Look at plugins with upload functionality: http://textpattern.org/categoryarchive/?c=images
Are you opposed to using the File content type for audio files? If not audio can be managed in the same way images are.
These directories are one level above the txp directory.
How does that affect you? You mentioned you did not want to require FTP access for your clients.

Thanks. I found an image upload plugin that should help. I will test it out tomorrow.

I’m sorry. What is the File content type for audio files? Perhaps, I’m just being dense. I will also look at a plugin similar to the image upload plugin.

If I go into Admin—>preferences—>advanced, I cannot set the image directory where I want it (it must be below the txp directory).

When logged in look under the content tab. You will see a Files page just after Images. If you were to upload your audio files (mp3, etc…) there you could then categorize them, give descriptions, etc… You’ll find that you can present those audio files in different ways with TXP tags. You’ll be able to see how many times they have been downloaded also. Your clients will be able to group audio files by category and ad descriptions if you so choose to present their audio content in groupings like that and with descriptions.
If I go into Admin—>preferences—>advanced, I cannot set the image directory where I want it (it must be below the txp directory).
Is it necessary to move it from it’s default location if that is what you are attempting? If it is in it’s default location already then it ought to be linked up correctly already. You might post your diagnostics or look there to see what path to that directory exists. In some hosting environments I’ve notice that the paths for Files and Images can sometimes turn up incorrect after a fresh install. You had mentioned you had images working but it sounds like you want to move the directory. I can’t think of a reason for moving it. Do you?

Re: Posting files to specific directories
Thank you for all of the information. I truly appreciate the help.
As for moving the images directory, the only reason I’d like to move it, is because I would just like to keep all of the images in the same directory, and the rest of the images from the site are in /images. It’s not a big deal; I just thought that if I could do it, I would.
Thanks, again.

I keep design images in a folder called img. :)
Have fun!
