Re: Feedback to: Textpattern CMS 4.2.0 released
Suspect this problem is really with my host: I’ve several sites running on 4.2.0 but one or two have been exhibiting problems INTERMITTENTLY in the past few days in that the homepage is repeatedly served, regardless of which section link is clicked. Problem repeatable across multiple browsers/platforms/devices even after clearing cache, restarting etc. I SEEM to have found a fix by switching Production Status from ‘Live’ to ‘Testing’. My question is…exactly how does Textpattern caching interact with the browser cache, the ISP cache and the host webserver/db cache and why would the switch to ‘Testing’ APPEAR to provide a fix?
More importantly though…why would the problem be intermittent. Is my host simply running at their capacity limit?
Any insight would be valuable. Thanks in advance!

Johnno, in the advanced preferences you can set the preference for sending a last-modified header to NO. That might fix your problem.

Re: Feedback to: Textpattern CMS 4.2.0 released
Fantastically quick reply! Thanks Ruud.
A few hours ago I implemented your suggestion on the two offending sites (one of which had been running perfectly for about 12 months) and set Production Status back to ‘Live’. So far, so good. Given that I had essentially changed nothing with my site, what conclusions can I draw from the fact that your suggestion seems to be have fixed a problem?
Thanks again.

Re: Feedback to: Textpattern CMS 4.2.0 released
Possible conclusions: your website contains code that varies the content of a page without updating the last-modified timestamp… or… somewhere between you and the website the something is caching incorrectly. If you have a busy website (lots of traffic), you may want to investigate further, because changing that setting increases the bandwidth used.

Re: Feedback to: Textpattern CMS 4.2.0 released
Yes, it would appear to be a caching issue…my hosting company has finally ‘fessed-up to having problems with their servers. Good to know Ruud’s tip for future eventualities though.

Re: Feedback to: Textpattern CMS 4.2.0 released
I could be excited about 4.2.0 but first…
I have a site built with TextPattern 4.0.8 which I’d like to move to a different server. Can I install TP 4.0.8 and then copy over my site files? Where can I download 4.0.8?
