Facebook sharing with off-page meta description

Hello,

Is there some way to fool Facebook’s standard http://www.facebook.com/share.php link to take its description from some aspect within the permlinked article in question, e.g. a custom field, author, excerpt etc? Without having to share from only the main article on the page.

To clarify, here’s my site. I could probably get the main article’s fields into the page’s meta description, but that wouldn’t be much good if you’re Facebook-sharing the stuff on the side.

I’m probably not making myself very clear. It’s hard to explain. Possibly impossible to do.

Thanks!

Hicks.

Re: Facebook sharing with off-page meta description

Yes & No:

Yes.
If you have a page with an articles list and you got a sharing link to each,
so you can target the sharing window to be open in a new window with the right permlink of the article you want to share.

you can take a look at my site
and see thare is a lot of sharing options (on the home page you can share the: News, Out Now-release & Videos)
but they are all got an article with a meta description tag in them.

No.
If you have for example a files list so you don’t have a permlink to them, so you can’t do that.
I’m right now working on a site and I want to share each file from a files-list,
but there is just one meta description in that page,
so I can’t because they don’t have a permlink so that I can’t trick the facebook share window to search for the right meta description from.
maybe I will just create an article to each file even that I don’t want to, just so I will be able to share it on facebook.

In Myspace you can create differents sharing forms on the same page and share what ever you want and how you want.
On Facebook it seems that you must have a page for each item you want to share so the users will always be able to visit the source page where it was shared from.

If I’m wrong and any of you know how to share whatever you want from the same page,
and not just articles that have them own pages, I will love to know please!
