Import files from a different folder into the Files folder

Hey!

I will like to know please how can I do that I be able to import files from ‘/files/import’ folder into the ‘/files/’ folder please?

I don’t want to take a chance that a client may accidentally remove files from the ‘files’ folder via FTP
or even a virus/spyware may mess with the stuff on that folder.

so I will create an FTP user that will let the client only accsess to the ‘/files/import’ folder
and after uploading a file (big files 150-240mb) the client will go to the ‘Files’ tab
and create the file from the “Existing file:” select-box.
it will import the file to the regular ‘files’ folder and will create it.
(I don’t mind to do changes in the core files if that what needs to be done)

Just like the fpx_image_import plugin do for images.

If you upload file into the files folder, they are detected by the system – you just need create entries for them by selecting them from the dropdown menu.

Yea thanks I know that.
but what I want is to upload files from other folder and then import/move them to the files folder.
so the client will have an FTP user that will give him access only to the import folder and not to the main files folder.
to prevent mistakes (remove/overwrite/rename files) by the client via FTP
and also it will be more relax so the client will not be afraid to make any mistakes.

Well – there is the AFU which you can get from here I’m pretty sure this doesn’t allow file overwrite, or you can set it not too – its pretty good – and I also found by searching a Manfre plugin in this thread #8

THE BLUE DRAGON asked support for FTP, because the files are really big (200 MB), which is problem with really cheap shared hosts. Not because the users don’t have access to uploading. The restriction is because he doesn’t want the users to delete files already in usage.

To me the extra import step makes no sense. And when users can delete the files via backend, the gain is really minimal. Also, if you do set it up, you have to make sure to inform the authors that they must wait untill the file is finished uploading before importing it. Which might make it even more confusing, when with stannard import they don’t have to wait.

Re: Import files from a different folder into the Files folder

Thanks anyway
I did tried to use the uploadify script to upload the files, but it false when uploading big files
even that I did changed the file max size in php.ini/.htaccess/phpinfo() and still no luck with uploading big files.

So then I went to let the client to use FTP to upload these files,
but I don’t really trust any client to not make mistakes when it’s so easy to do via FTP.
If the user delete files in the TXP admin side so he is really stupid, but via FTP it’s more sensitive.

Maybe I will use the smd_remote_file plugin,
so the client will only be able to upload files via some other site like fileden and delete he’s FTP user.
but that distroying all the homey feeling lol.

Re: Import files from a different folder into the Files folder

Couldn’t smd_remote_file plugin be used to manage files in a local folder within a limited ftp access (with rights on that folder only)? At least, no damage could be done to the txp install itself.
