Abuse of HTML tables
Apologies if this is old news (it was done back in 2007; being totally hip and on the ball I only just stumbled across it).
In the dark years before CSS, hands up those of you who used to use table-based positioning, one-pixel gif tricks and/or cell colour manipulation when they started out? Don’t be shy; I did. But did you ever think to abuse HTML tables to this degree?
Amazing and somehow disturbing in equal measure :-o

Re: Abuse of HTML tables
Amazing! But I have to admit that I have thought at that “pixelizing” use of table before. Never had the courage to try, though… :)

That’s pretty awesome, actually. In a very twisted way, but still…

Re: Abuse of HTML tables
Saw this a couple years ago. Personally, I love this sort of thing – going bass ackwards using HTML elements to produce imagery.
I’m sure an JS developer with a some time on his/her hands could come up with a script to convert a simple PNG into tables. But the tricky part would be combining rows and cells to decrease the overall markup.
