Trouble Uploading Files

I created an article under the Contents section, and now I want to upload a file for the article.

How do I upload a file? I went to the the Files section, but could not upload.

I am not a computer/web expert. Can someone please give me a quick explanation?

What exactly did you do, and what happened? Error messages? Time-out?

Re: Trouble Uploading Files

I went to Files and chose my file to upload. I clicked on upload and it directed me to the Write page to create an article or whatever. At this point I thought maybe I have to write something at that moment for my upload to go through and once I publish my completed article, the file is not attached.

If I click on the Create button, a file shows up in the table below, but the name is blank. I went into that blank file id and at the bottom attempted to upload a file, but again it takes me to a Write page.

Also, when I try to click on the Create button again, a message at the top shows the following:

Warning: Duplicate entry ‘’ for key 2 insert into txp_file set filename = ‘’, category = ‘’, permissions = ‘’, description = ‘’, size = ‘8192’, created = now(), modified = now() in /data/4/0/159/65/322880/user/328754/htdocs/textpattern/lib/txplib_db.php on line 81

If you can help me I would really appreciate it. The assistant who was here before me did it perfectly fine, but I can’t.

Yes, that happens to me as well when I try to do the same. It’s not meant to just be clicked on ;) You can FTP files directly to your Files directory, and next to the ‘Create’ button is a dropdown, that allows you to choose one of those files. That would be an alternative if you can’t get the upload to work.
But it’s strange that clicking the upload button is taking you to the Write tab. I wonder if it might be a plugin interfering. Which plugins are active on your site?

Is it actually the write pane that you are seeing or the edit details pane for a file which also has some text boxes for filling in?

If you can see your file in the list under Content > Files:

  • click in the relevant row on the button “Textile” under the column tags.
  • A popup window appears, edit any details if necessary and click “Build Tag”.
  • A field appears beneath the “Build Tag” button with the tag pre-written. CTRL-C to copy this field.
  • Go back to the article where the file should appear (Content > Articles > Click on article name)
  • Place your cursor at the point where the file download should appear, CTRL-V to paste the tag into the article body.
  • Resave the article to commit the changes
  • check whether it appears correctly.
