Merging OpenID and comments in a TXP blog
Hey all,
I have been looking around at how to best authenticate as many people as possible for commenting purposes without having to maintain registered users on my blog. I was thinking about using something along the lines of Facebook Connect but that only covers people that are on FB (which are quite a few, but there are still a couple that refuse to sign up). I then noticed OpenID, which looks pretty promising to allow me to get names, email addresses, and possible avatar pictures from users of many different services.
Does anyone know of any TXP blogs that utilize OpenID to authenticate and allow people to comment while showing their basic information? I noticed Manfre has a plugin that was developed but it doesn’t have much explanation available other than just the basic plugin code.
I’m not much of a developer type so I need to see examples before I start trying to use this, so can anyone point me to working blogs out there?
Thanks!

Re: Merging OpenID and comments in a TXP blog
I am trying to install the mem_openid using the form on the plugins page but I think I’m missing something. I get the error “badly formed or empty plugin code”. I’m on 4.0.4, do I need a newer version or do I need the plugin formatted differently?
Sorry for the dumb question, but I’ve been away from all things txp and websmithy for over two years.

slim,
this is the way i got the mem_openid plugin installed
1. get a plugin composer like ied_plugin_composer
2. create 2 “new plugins” and paste the code from mem_openid into the “source code” fields
3. enable and save the newly created plugins
4. get the php OpenID Library files http://www.openidenabled.com/php-openid/ and install them in your textpattern folder, see the advanced options for the path settings
hope this helps, i only tried this plugin on my local testserver…
