Error when moving to a different host

I’m having a headache of moving to a different host after suffering from a lot of issues with my current hosting.
The new place is here: http://www.pikaland.server298.com and is supposed to look exactly like this website: http://pikaland.com.

I’ve already migrated my files over to the new host, and have imported my database over successfully (using the wiki tutorial). I’ve also changed the config.php file, but still do not manage to see the main page on the site. (I was able to access textpattern folder and see the whole backend, etc) but even after changing the file structure in Admin > Preferences, I still get this error on Diagnostics:

———————————————

$path_to_site is inaccessible.: /var/www/vhosts/pikaland.com/httpdocs ?
/var/www/vhosts/pikaland.com/httpdocs/index.php is inaccessible ?
Image directory is not writable: /var/www/vhosts/pikaland.com/httpdocs//www/www/images
File directory path is not writable: /www/www/files
Temporary directory path is not writable: /www/www/textpattern/tmp ?

———————————————

The structure of the directory still points to the old settings, eventhough I have updated the necessary files/folders.

Can anyone tell me what did I do wrong?

Did you change the site url in the preferences?

And don’t forget the paths in Advanced preferences (files and temp).

Did you move index.php?

Re: Error when moving to a different host

THANK YOU Els! apparently when I migrated the files it didn’t overwrite the existing index.php. YAY!

Although now I have to deal with the permissions for the files. My host doesn’t allow for 777 permissions because they use SuExec. I’ve already changed it 775 but am still experiencing error messages.

It gives that warning message also when the path is incorrect, aka directory is not found.

For example if your site path is /var/www/vhosts/pikaland.com/www/www/httpdocs, then your files directory is obviously sub dir of it, for example /var/www/vhosts/pikaland.com/www/www/httpdocs/files.

Re: Error when moving to a different host

Ah, I finally got it.

I did a clean install of txp on a test folder and took note of the file directory structures, etc and added this into Admin > Advanced.
(I think there may be a simpler way of doing it, but I’m just happy that this is working right now.)

Only small problem is that some images were missing, but no big issues. I just re-uploaded them.

Thanks everyone!

yes I always do that now. too many times i waste time futzing around when all i have to do is try a test install.
