[howto] Basic tutorial: Hello, World!

Spurred by the question that started this thread, I’ve written a new introductory tutorial. It is much more than a direct answer to the question in the thread; to do so and leave it at that would have been irresponsible. Even so, the article turned out to be much harder to write than I expected.

Suggestions welcome, of course. I’ll probably add it to TextBook or at least a link.

Wow, that’s a nice tutorial, Jeff! Must have been quite a job. I read through it and it looks very clear; though someone new at Txp would probably be a better judge. And I must confess I got distracted and spent too much time studying the harpsichord… what a wonderful thing! ;)

Please do add it to Textbook.

Thanks Els, will do. Just made a couple of minor edits.

Yes, that harpsichord is something. Magnificent obsession, or magnificently bizarre obsession, I’m not sure which.

Thanks, Jeff!
Another valuable tutorial to send beginners to. Easy to read and follow.

Would not send them to the OpenSourceCMS.com installation, though, you never know which state the demo currently is in, and, like you mention, it really might take longer to read and realise the steps than the life cycle of the demo. TXP is so easy to install!

Thanks Uli, you make a good point. I do think it’s nice to offer a fallback of this sort in case the reader has difficulty with the installation. It would be great to offer something like the Chyrp demo, which is apparently a new instance for every visitor. I’ll think about whether to leave the link in with a stronger caveat, or simply remove it as you suggest.
