MySQL backup and restore
I’ve started this new thread so as not to hijack another.
uli, I work on Mac on my desktop and the servers I use for web sites are all Linux shared boxes.

I now have the plug-in working by following ruud’s patch here: rss_admin_db_manager
The new tabs appear under “Extensions”. Looks good.

Mac is fine :) namely:
Get rss_admin_db_manager running, in TXP admin go to Extensions > DB Backup. Chose one of the brown links, drag it to your desktop, then store it in a safe place. Open iCal, create a new regular event, as “Reminder” chose “Open file”. Now you can see a little menu in your Event sidebar, select “Own” (that’s just a guess, I have a German UI), in the file dialogue chose your .URL file.
In bad weather I never leave home without wet_plugout, smd_where_used and adi_form_links

I’m getting the 127 error message at the moment which I seem to remember is what made me give up trying last time I had a go with the plugin.
I love your method of using iCal.

Phil,
Have a look at AutoMySQLBackup, it’s what I’ve been using for a number of years now. Configure it, setup a cron job on your Linux web space and do an rsync from your Mac for offline backups.

Hi hcgtv,
Thanks for the tip. At least 2 of my sites have cPanel which I think allows me to set up Cron Jobs. I’ll try it on these first.

I do what Bert suggests.
To automate things further, I have iCal set up to start my FTP application (Fetch), which in turn mirrors the backups to a local folder, all without user intervention.

Phil, in case you still want rss_admin_db_manager: I’ve a working version installed in 4.2 which I saved together with a note “colak’s version”, it should be this one here
Edit: err 127 was a matter of paths as far as I remember. Locally, MAMP?

rss_admin_db_manager works for half of my sites and fails on many others. no idea why. mary said she was working on a better, universal backup solution/plugin though.
