How to make Image Caption (and Alt) fields searchable?

Hi TXPers,

Two Q’s here in two days. A record for me…

I am using the lovely wet_haystack to make lots more of my content findable. Lovely.

I would like Image meta (like the Caption and Alt fields) to be searchable too on the articles they appear on.

Looks like wet_haystack doesn’t do this (no complaints, it does almost everything else).

Does anyone know if I should stop trying to solve this as it’s un-do-able, or if there’s a way to do it?

As always, thanks in advance for reading, let alone commenting.

Cheers, -Alan

Re: How to make Image Caption (and Alt) fields searchable?

One might not judge this request as undoable, but at least way out of Textpattern’s built-in search capabilities. Built-in search relies on the contents of articles which are thoroughly exposed through wet_haystack.

Any other content element like links, or as in your case, images, is not part of the full-text search index Textpattern builds, and your requirement would thus have to be fulfilled by a custom search method (plugin, external site search through Google et al.)

@wet, Thanks very much for the answer. Stupidly I was not subscribed to the thread and so hadn’t seen it until just now.

I understand you answer, not a big problem for me and I thank you for your plugin.

Cheers, -Alan
