[request] tjh_listfilter Reborn?

tjh_listfilter is a plugin written last year by a student in part fulfilment of his degree. He has since graduated and moved on and so even if the plugin isn’t an orphan now, it is certainly an ‘abandoned child’. It filtered articles in the backend by sections, categories, authors and statuses. Unlike other plugins that perform a similar role this one is persistent. The filter remains active on page refreshes, when one returns to ‘content/articles’ after navigating away temporarily and it’s even there when one logs off and returns to the site several days later.

I found that particularly useful in a managing a car collector’s site where it helps in reconciling the entries for the cars, which I manage, with the the physical content of the collection which someone else manages and which is in a constant state of change.

Sadly, the plugin stopped working with TXP 4.0.8. Only the ‘Categories’ part of it works as intended. Even so, we still use because it is better than nothing; we use categories to classify the cars by marque and by a list of generic descriptions like ‘vintage sports car’.

I find it most helpful too on other sites with multiple authors.

Please can a plug-in developer take a look at tjh_listfilter with a view to:

  • Re-working the plug-in so that it will function as intended with the latest TXP version.
  • Developing it so that the same functionality can be applied to:
    • Images for categories and authors
    • Files for categories.

Very many thanks,

This would be very, very useful ! Thanks Joebaich, I didn’t even know about this plugin!
Now if someone with developer capabilities would be inspired… :) Please, please! (I’ll pay for it if needed).

There is also lam_browse_by

It doesn’t remember its state like tjh_listfilter, but it does work for articles, images and files.

Re: [request] tjh_listfilter Reborn?

Remembering the state is key for me and more important than having the filter work on images and files too though that would be good too. So I am specifically interested in having the plug-in, as it stands, ‘repaired’ so that it will work with TXP 4.2. I am no expert (obviously :-) ) but the plugin as it stands is well documented and structured, it was part of a term paper or similar. It would have wider use to the TXP community if images and files filtering was added too, perhaps as a second phase. I am happy to put my hand in my sporran too for either/both phases.

Joe, I thought you should notice Stef’s post here.
