How to begin setup installation
Can someone provide detailed info on how to do this, after you’ve used ftp to upload textpattern?
What is the url for accessing the setup file- so you can register textpattern?
For example my site structure is this:
www.mysite.net16.net
in the root is: public-html” folder > cms folder > textpattern foldern > setup folder > setup-langs.php file
I’ve tried inputting my sites URL with the above, but with no success.
For example, I’ve tried: www.mysite.net16.net/textpattern/setup/setup-langs.php
AND
www.mysite.net16.net/public_html/textpattern/setup/setup-langs.php
Please help
(By the way, the “mysite” domain is not mine- I don’t even think it’s real)

Re: How to begin setup installation
Upload textpattern to your webspace, and then visit the textpattern folder in your brower. The setup scripts should be run. In your case I think it would be http://www.mysite.net16.net/cmsfolder/textpattern/

Re: How to begin setup installation
Thanks for the response.
Your suggestion isn’t working, unfortunately…
I’ve reuploaded the textpattern folder several times now, just to make sure that is not the problem.

Re: How to begin setup installation
Isn’t it domain.xy/textpattern/textpattern to install TXP?
If it isnt running automaticly, try /textpattern/textpattern/setup/ or /textpattern/textpattern/setup/index.php

Re: How to begin setup installation
site.com/(subdirectory/)textpattern/index.php will run the setup, if of course that is where you uploaded the textpattern files and folders. You shouldn’t access the setup directory or files directly.
Try again. The detailed installation instructions will help you.

Thanks for the link, and your suggestion, but neither works…
Here is the link to my site, where you can see the directory: http://nonameyet.net16.net/
Maybe you can figure it out. The textpattern folder is under the folder “cms” and the textpattern folder has been renamed “myadmin” for extra security as textpattern nstructs.

It’s not ‘as textpattern instructs’. The default install is secure enough.
Did you follow these instructions?
Did you also read the introductory paragraphs and this:
WARNING! Content may need revised to the current release — use with caution!
Last edited for Txp 4.0.3.
There are considerable differences between 4.0.3 and 4.0.8, it’s quite possible that those instructions won’t work at all anymore.
If I were you, I’d forget about renaming the textpattern directory, and do a fresh install.

Re: How to begin setup installation
Your cms folder gives a 301 error and shouldn’t
Piwik Dashboard, Google Analytics Dashboard, Minibar, Article Image Colorpicker, Admin Datepicker, Admin Google Map, Admin Colorpicker

Yes, it does. But why?
Does a simple renaming of a folder make that much of a difference??

Re: How to begin setup installation
Yes, I followed the instructions.
I see what you’re saying, but I don’t agree that textpattern is secure enough.
I’ve been on a few digital security sites, and textpatten seems to have a lot of security bugs. It is advised to rename the textpattern folder.
Oh well, it looks like a fresh install it is…

Would you mind pointing us to those sites, please?
