Install on root-level with files in subfolder (?)

A client has their root directory filled with years of files and folders that we can’t move. They already have “files” and “images” folders filled with other stuff. We need to install TXP to work on the root level. Is it possible to put the app files in a subfolder, and have it work on the top level?

You can easily change the path to the files folder Textpattern uses under advanced prefs. Not sure right off how to deal with images.

That solves one problem. Thanks.

I read in the Textpattern Solutions book that you can add RewriteBase /subfolder to your .htaccess file (page 22), but it didn’t explain exactly how to make it work. Know about this?

In my copy, that section is about getting Clean URLs working. In general .htaccess controls http requests, and can’t redirect Textpattern to write images into another directory. Are you having clean URL problems too?

As I think about it, there’s no reason Textpattern can’t operate with the existing image directory— images and all —as long as it’s writable by PHP. Am I wrong? Would this be a problem?

Re: Install on root-level with files in subfolder (?)

I was thinking that would work. Mostly I am just wanting to avoid having the TXP app files/folders amidst the hundreds of other files in the root directory. I want to put all of Textpattern in a root folder called “textpattern” and operate it out of there. If it’s not possible, I’ll just have to manage the files and images folders differently and deal with the mess. I believe it can be done with WordPress, which is what I’m more familiar with, which is why I ask.

Have you tried changing images in Advanced preferences to subfolder/images? It seems to work for me.

Re: Install on root-level with files in subfolder (?)

For now, I have renamed the images folder to textpattern_images and files to textpattern_files so it keeps the textpattern folders together. This is a decent solution for this particular need.
