configure txp as a blog and as many sectioned web site

Not sure if my title explains what i wish to do….

I plan on basically having an web site for our organization with one of the sections being the blog, into which i need to import the old wordpress entries.

I think I would like to have the default install of textpattern remain as is (for ease of design etc) and use that as input for my Blog Section. I would then have to modify the default install i assume that points to Home.

ie. i wish to have these sections: Home / Publications / Events / News / Blog / Conferences …etc.

In other words i believe i would need to duplicate the default install of Pages, Sections, Forms etc , as blog_default and modify the original defaults for my Home page… is there an easy way to do this…

A tutorial on setting up a non-blog with a blog section?

Nope. You can reuse your forms like in this tip or by calling an article form multiple times with several article tags you configure differently. You can even reuse your pages if you put conditionals (i.e. txp:if_ … whatever-tags) in them (e.g. <txp:if_section title=“blog”>) For getting an idea of the possibilities there’s the Tag Reference

TXP is a blog out of the box. So you need some tips on adding static content.
For importing WP content there are articles in the Textbook Wiki

Re: configure txp as a blog and as many sectioned web site

Thanks Uli –

But how would I have it so that the link users would first visit as the default page would be my Home page and not the blog? Or am i missing something basic?

eg:
www.domain.tld/ is my default Home page and
www.domain.tld/blog is then my actual blog section.

I don’t know, I edited my post several times.

You put your static content (or at least some of it) in the default section. I recommend to create content by using TXP tags, but depends on the amount of static code or pages to be done and your TXP knowledge. You can always change things later. (Just in case: How do I use a different page layout for each section?. But you better use the abovementioned if_section tag)

For your blog you create a new section “blog” on the sections tab where you set it to not be selected by default and not be displayed on the front page. If you want it to use your default page (that’s possible if you replace as much x/html tags as possible by txp tags) leave “Uses page” as is. Otherwise create a new page and select that for your blog section.
