I smell a new release approaching!
Hum, some news in svn repo let me feel that a new release is close to born with a lot of improvments!
What is the better manner to celebrate that new born?
Have you some ideas?
Cheers ;)

What’s wrong with getting drunk? ;)

Bert, if you plan ahead, next mornings can be skipped :)

Re: I smell a new release approaching!
We celebrate how we always do: by downloading the official release, making brilliant sites with it, and telling the world how it was created with this lightweight, awesome, flexible, powerful, CMS.
And then get drunk when the clients show us how much they appreciate all the work that’s gone into the system :-)
As Els says, the monring after can be avoided with proper planning!
wet: nice move about the versioning from now on.

We could just get drunk in the morning then maintain it.

Wait. Could that mean the new site is ready too?

Browsing the new site. While drunk.

My YARP:
- Get drunk
- Build and publish official release
- Beta test
Being a developer has its merits ;-)
But seriously:
We are now in a “feature freeze” state for Textpattern CMS 4.2.0, which means we will try to iron out the bugs we encounter on our own test systems, then build and release one (or even two – might even be three) release candidates and then it happens.

Re: I smell a new release approaching!
Which plugins will become superfluous?
What I mean is: what new features will be available by default? A backup system? Unlimited categories?
Maybe there is a list of these somewhere?
It will be easy to fit a site made with TXP 4.0.x + plugins to TXP 4.2.x with the same features included out of the box?
Thanks.

4.2.0 ??
Hm, I could swear it was 2009 last time I checked.
I must have accidentally fast-forwarded, or is this the wet reality distortion field?
Anyway, I’m all for the getting drunk bit.

Sure. Linear version number graphs are for wimps. Either you name your releases after the last wild animal you remember seeing while your mind was slowly drifting away from the pre-liver-transplantation drugs, or change version numbering with every other release.
We’re using a third option.

nice! i’m glad things are finally getting over the crockery hump.
Developer: Core support for unlimited custom fields (thanks: Gerhard Lazu)
i assume that means being able to support gerhards plugin and not natively having unlimited custom fields built in?
getting low with merlot tonight.
