State of Textpattern 4.1 Development

Hi, how far away is 4.1 away from a beta release? I’ve just checkedout the last repository and it doesn’t seem any different to how it was last time I tried it which was about 10 months ago. Has development of it stopped? Really like the look of the sections system, especially the sub-sections (something I’ve been wanting forever).

Re: State of Textpattern 4.1 Development

My guess is that it’s stalled-ish, but the good news is that 4.0.x is humming along quite nicely, Wet’s doing a bang-up job.

Quite frankly I could care less about a lot of the “proposed” features, and I kinda think it was mostly a Zem thing. may be wrong tho.

Bummer :/ Does Wet have plans to incorporate the 4.1 sections into 4.0? such as the updated design and sub-sections.

I know :P but I was kind of hoping someone such as Wet himself was going to reply to that

Driz,

You can kind of get sub-sections with adi_menu (I realize it’s not true sub-sections – but it’s a damn good cheat).

You might want to take a look at that and see if it’ll get what you’re after.

I might suggest you pretend that 4.1 doesn’t exist – because in all likelihood it never will.

  • Crockery aka Textpattern 4.1.0 is comatose until someone finds both interest and energy for such a comprehensive rewrite.
  • There is a number past 9.

adi_menu looks great but it doesn’t offer sub-sections, such as domain.com/section/sub-section/

Also is the sub-section feature seen in 4.1, a massive amount of code? Is it at all possible for it to be implemented in say 4.0.10?

Re: State of Textpattern 4.1 Development

Although implementation sub-sections might hit a milestone in txp’s development, this does not mean that it should happen on 4.1. Don’t forget all the major enhancements which were implemented with a decimal upgrades including new tags as well as the tags within tags features. the next upgrade will probably feature admin controlled back-end themes. I’m not sure if WP with all its funding is making these kind of leaps per decimal upgrade.

Re: State of Textpattern 4.1 Development

What’s the story with 4.0.9 then. In addition to it suppoting admin themes, will it be supporting the multiple site out of the box?

Re: State of Textpattern 4.1 Development

Subsections are also not fully developed in 4.1 unless stuff has changed you could asign parents to sections in the admin but that was about it. Url parsimg was not setup to handle the hierarchy for example.

Could have changed I haven’t looked at it in awhile but I don’t there’s really been progress since zem left.
