[resolved] warning: failed to open stream when files are available

After installing a theme and writing a first post, I realized that none of the links on my site worked, so I headed to the diagnostics tab, which I had previously ignored. It told me that my .htaccess file was missing, that my index.php was unavailable (which seemed unlikely to me?), and a few other longer file names were missing, which I can’t recall and didn’t screencap. It seems stupid in retrospect.

I checked my ftp, and the .htaccess and index.php files had gone missing since I installed (though I’m sure they were there when I installed yesterday), so I reuploaded both. The .htaccess file immediately disappeared again. When I went to refresh the diagnostics page, I got this set of errors:

I checked the faq and this error should mean that I’m missing these files. However, those files are right where they should be. The other option was that my config file was wrong, but it looks just fine—same as yesterday, at least, and I’ve been able to run textpattern itself just fine for a day. My website’s main page is still displaying properly, but all links are erroring (which was what I was trying to fix in the first place).

This is my second install in three days because of a bug on my host’s end, and I’d really hate to have to do it a third time. On the other hand, I’d probably be really efficient at chnging the css I need to change at this point? Someone please tell me I won’t have to start over.

It looks like you have a ‘textpattern’ folder inside your ‘textpattern’ folder. Not according to your diagnostics, but according to the warnings. It’s probably best to re-install, but if you really hate that you can also try to move the files to where they belong. The folders and files listed here should be in /path/to/html/. If your intention was to install it in a subdirectory of your site (site.com/subdir/) then place everything in /html/subdir/. In that case you should enter site.com/subdir as your site URL in Admin > preferences. It’s best not to name that directory ‘textpattern’ because that name is already in use.

I’m glad you can read the warnings, but that’s not the case—textpattern was installed onto the base directory. A reinstall it is, then. I assume I’ll need to wipe everything I have already install off first?

I do see, now that I’m looking, that there are documented issues with my host (godaddy), so it might all lead back to this—I know exactly why I had to reinstall the first time, and it was a godaddy issue. Gross. Well, I’m getting really efficient at this.
