Chat ala Gmail

Imagine that you login into your TXP powered Intranet at work. Your head over to http://companyname.com/account and maybe change your avatar or password. While doing that you notice that another user logs on in a little ‘Who’s Available” box in the sidebar. You roll over their name and select ‘chat’.

Thankfully the Intranet developer was nice enough to roll Some Chat Software into the deal. They went so far as to use the existing txp_user table in the DB. They developed a plugin to integrate that Some Chat Software into Textpattern this way.

One wonders what Some Chat Software is out there where this is feasible.

One also wonders if a plugin dev is up to the task.

There was an old livechat or some such plugin for TXP a while back. It’s MIA but if someone had an old copy I’d love to have it. Also that might be a bases for developing a new plugin.

Google Talk Gadget

I do want to use this. You just reaffirmed my desire to not reinvent the wheel. I’d still be interested to know of a way to give txp_users a chat system stemming from TXP. Not sure if this is possible to give txp_users access to Google Chat. Likely I will go ahead now with Google and create users twice, both in TXP and at Google. I suppose my goal is to only have to create a user once in TXP so that my admins can have a very simple procedure rather than have to also set up a user in Google Apps for the domain.

Re: Chat ala Gmail

You might be able to create a plugin to add a user to Google Apps when you create them in Textpattern but it looks like the API is only for Premier and Education Editions
