txp:article_custom and pagination

I want to be able to list items from multiple sections and have pagination working too.

If i use txp:article i can’t list items from multiple sections and if i use txp:article_custom pagination will not work.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Lawrence

Re: txp:article_custom and pagination

You can try to combine attr offset in txp:article_custom and txp:variable in some way… May be it’s possible. But without changing some global php variables you will not be able to use tags txp:older/newer and plugins, such as ob1_pagination

If you want pagination through list of articles from different sections, why not to unify them by keywords, categories or just some custom_field value? This is possible for txp:article

Re: txp:article_custom and pagination

hi,

txp:older/newer works fine when i use txp:article but not when i use txp_article_custom.

ob1_pagination looks interesting. i’ll experiment with that.

thanks

Re: txp:article_custom and pagination

I’m actually amazed this can’t be done. Just installed ob1_pagination and it doesn’t work with txp:article_custom. Anyone know a workaround?

EDIT: All I am trying to do is show an article list with pagination on the front page of my site that includes only section="blog". I ended up finding an easy fix by making the blog section the only one that’s "On front page" on the sections setup screen. Now I can just use the <txp:article /> tag on the default page and it only looks at articles in the blog section. This is basic Txp stuff I know, but sometimes it’s good to get back to the basics!

Re: txp:article_custom and pagination

chh_article, part of the chh_article_custom plugin. Though the plugin still works, it is not supported anymore!

EDIT: just noticed your edit, that is a better solution of course :)

Re: txp:article_custom and pagination

So, chh_article is supports pagination? So does rss_suparchive, a pleasant suprise. Can chh_article limit by section though? Doesn’t appear so.

I haven’t tried it, but

chh_article accepts the same attributes as chh_article_custom

Re: txp:article_custom and pagination

I don’t know I haven’t tried it myself, but here it sounds like someone couldn’t get chh_article plugin to work with ob1_pagination.

Well, the only way to find out is to try it yourself… I hear different sounds ;)

Re: txp:article_custom and pagination

Yeah, don’t know, not a resounding consensus for sure. Plus I’m talking sections, not categories, maybe we’ll never know, I haven’t had energy to try this for the sake of it, will post back if I do.

Re: txp:article_custom and pagination

I am using chh_article with multiple sections atm. No problems there. So the “limit” function is there.

Re: txp:article_custom and pagination

Agogo, yes but can you use ob1_pagination with it?

Re: txp:article_custom and pagination

You didn’t read the thread I linked to and you didn’t read the plugin documentation. How many people need to tell you that they’ve got it working before you give it a try?

Re: txp:article_custom and pagination

Els, I did read the post, but it didn’t refer to sections, but categories, so while you are totally right about this, that post wasn’t conclusive to me that specifying sections would also work. I admit I didn’t read the entire plugin documentation. I just didn’t have any interest, given my problem was already solved.

For the good of everyone who is hotly anticipating the final conclusion to this drama, I just tested it, and it does work! I can’t get forms working with chh_article for some reason, but chh_article and chh_article_lib are getting uninstalled now, they were good while they lasted.

Thanks again Els, I just needed a little time to be able to try this out, sucks that I can’t play around with Textpattern all day!

EDIT: The reason the form didn’t work (scratched out text above) is I had to change the attribute to listform rather than form. txp:article will still use the form attribute when displaying an article list (if you don’t specify a listform attribute), while chh_article will only use the form attribute when you are displaying an individual article. Awesome!
