Editing Language Files

I client of mine wants me to edit the way some things are ‘worded’ in the TXP back-end and front-end. I assumed that this would be just a simple edit of the language text file in the /textpattern/lang/ directory. However editing it has no effect, obviously I’m going about this in the wrong way, could someone please shed some light on how the language system works in Textpattern. Thanks

Re: Editing Language Files

did you install the altered file? Just editing it will not show any of the changes.

Re: Editing Language Files

How does that work? The only install options I see are the ones in the Admin section, but installs from the remote server right? and NOT the file in your own server, unless I’m totally wrong here :/

EDIT: Just tried that Install from File and it worked! So like what happens here, if I install from remote server again it will go back to the original language file, but the edited file will not be overwritten? So is the default lang external? :S

Re: Editing Language Files

The database would be updated but not the file, yes. You can always download the lang files manually from the server when it’s time to update, and use file comparison/diff software to update your edited file.
