How to hide (archive) articles but keep them live for permalinks

I am working on a magazine. The information is going to get flushed twice a year. I need to keep the articles for the permalinks, but I (by ‘I’ I mean my boss) don’t want them to show up in a list of articles in that section, etc.

In other words, I want to archive the last issue, but make it live so that it can be searched and reached via permalinks. Is there a plugin that adds a status as “archived?”

Thanks jsoo, I hadn’t upgraded this particular instance to 4.7. This’ll work like a charm.
