what is "Treat as a static section?"

Forgive me if this has been answered elsewhere; I poked through the forums but did not see any other mention of it. Upon installing a fresh 4.0.8 onto one of my domains, I started creating sections and saw this option: “Treat as a static section?”

What is this for? What does it do? What will it break? :) Is it related to the mysterious new form type of “section”, the function of which I am still unsure.

(And moderators, please move this question if it is in the wrong section of the forum.)

Re: what is "Treat as a static section?"

Unfortunately I don’t use v 4.0.8 because of the MLP incompatibilities. Anyway I suppose it “stoles” net-carver terminology from sed_section_fields and – if it’s what I think – is very useful. In brief a “static section” doesn’t show in the section select in the “write” tab. It’s useful for instance if you use a section for search and don’t want to make it garble the sections select.
Hope I ‘m not saying something stupid because I never read about this new feature (by the way: do you have sed_section_fields installed?) .

I’ve been wondering the same thing, especially about the “mysterious new form type of ‘section’”. :)

Needs to get written into TextBook’s Forms doc. /* reminds self much to do there yet */

Re: what is "Treat as a static section?"

As redbot wrote, you have sed_section_fields installed. As stated on steve’s plugin page:

The major new feature of this version is the ability to mark a section as ‘Static’. Such sections are usually used to hold a single article that seldom changes — such as an about page, or perhaps your site policy copy.
All such sections are not included in the Write tab’s section select box — which means site copy writers or other contributors will have less chance of choosing the wrong section. Users with Publisher status will always see all of the sections on the Write tab so they can get to fix any problems that might arise.

No, it’s an artifact of sed_section_fields.

“Section type” forms, OTOH (and their counter parts “category” forms) are forms intended to be used in conjunction with <txp:section_list /> and <txp:category_list /> as a value to the form attribute, along the lines of <txp:section_list form="foo" />.

These were introduced in TXP 4.0.7 and serve a similar use case as the form attributes for <txp:article(_custom) /> .

I’d suggest to revisit HISTORY.txt and look for all tags which gained “container” capabilites in 4.0.7.

Hi wet

What do you think about this option to display the “History” file within the “Diagnostics tab”. Administrators could view the new features added and know how to use it.

Best regards,

Patrick.
