Been searching this thread to find an answer but with 119 pages and the limited search function… :-P
Anyway, I was just wondering if it’s possible to rename the languages that appear in l10n_lang_list (like, putting FR instead of French) or even to use images instead. Also, is there a list of all CSS selectors for MLP?

You could do that with <txp:l10n_lang_list display="short" /> which will output ‘fr’, and use CSS to transform it to uppercase.

or even to use images instead.

I assume that can be done with an image replacement technique.

Also, is there a list of all CSS selectors for MLP?

Not that I know of.

Hi,

I’m using <txp:l10n_lang_list/> to change my language.
However now my client want a pretty picture on the link place.
I was doing that with snippets and CSS, but that only works for the background. And now I need to use a image for the text also.

There’s any way to use a image instead of the regular link MLP generates?

You could try a plugin like ied_replacer.

you give me a push in the right direction, however ied_replacer was created to substitute text in articles. So I tried to reinvent the wheel.

I’m very sorry, this seems kind of off topic, but since its closey related to MLP I’ve posted here

This what I did so far

Create a new plugin with the following code

function kaj_rep ($atts){
	extract(lAtts(array(
		'replace'  => '1','with' =>'2', 'where' => '123'
		),$atts));
return str_replace($replace, $with, $where);
	}

and inside my form this:

<txp:kaj_rep replace="Português"
            with='<img src="/styles/pt24.png" />'    where='<txp:l10n_lang_list/>' />

So I had the results I wanted a nice round wheel :) except that I dont know how to pass arrays into the parameter

Now comes the problems, I got a error 500 if:

I use a <txp:l10n_lang_list/> tag with a <txp:kaj_rep /> on the same page
The same happens if I use two <txp:l10n_lang_list/>tags on the same page

Changing my 'where' parameter to something else diferent from <txp:l10n_lang_list/> and the page works again.

So far I’ve managed to get this working form:

<txp:variable name="substituir" value='<txp:l10n_lang_list surpress_current="y"/>' />

<txp:l10n_if_lang lang="en">
       <txp:kaj_rep replace="Português"
               with='<img src="/styles/pt24.png" />'    where='<txp:variable name="substituir" />' />
   <txp:else />
       <txp:kaj_rep replace="English"
               with='<img src="/styles/gb24.png" />'    where='<txp:variable name="substituir" />' />
</txp:l10n_if_lang>

Any comments on this double <txp:l10n_lang_list/> error?
Or on my plugin code for that matter, any help about passing arrays has a parameter?

I’m pretty sure there a solution already made somewhere that I missed !!!

Please If you are going to reply to me, keep it simple. This work was very hard to me to come by and I still don’t fully understand parts of it.

1. Add the Italiano [l10n_txp_it_it] table : Failed
2. Add the English [l10n_txp_en_us] table : Failed

Insert MLP tags into pages : Done
….

I can create them manually?
Where I can find the structure base for the tables?

I don’t know about your plugin code, sorry, but have you tried changing the single quotes in your tags to double quotes?

That’s strange. I wonder if it has to do with database permissions? Have you tried running the uninstall wizard and then install again? If that doesn’t work, here is the table structure. My phpMyAdmin interface is in Dutch, but I suppose you can figure it out.

Hello, I have tried to go through this thread carefully to make sure that I don’t repeat something that has already been asked. It’s about SEO. I note the post or two that Julián has made and wanted to use that as a starting point.

Recently I was given the task of revamping a French site, making it bilingual French/English. I had never done a bilingual site before, but I had read up on MLP and so I thought it should be possible. The existing French site was a mess (not semantic, no doctype declared, lots of other things) and didn’t even come up within the first four or five pages of a search. I assumed that it was because the site was such a mess under the hood; I felt confident that I could make it come up first. Not usually a problem. Well, it doesn’t come up first. It comes up somewhere around the bottom of the first page or top of the second page. The site has been live for over a month. I’m tearing my hair out trying to figure out what the problem is. (The site validates.) If I go to google.fr, I see that google is citing the French description from the metatags, e.g., “il est l’auteur de plusieurs livres sur le psychanalyse”; if I go to google.com, I see that the English description comes up, e.g., “he has written several books blah blah”. And that is indeed what I wanted to happen, but I also wanted the site to be toward the top, easy for people to find.

One of the first things I wondered about from the outset was SEO, but not necessarily for the reasons outlined by Julián. I wondered how it would work with the metadata (keywords, description). But once I installed MLP and kind of figured out how to implement it, I thought the solution would be easy. Make the metadata a form and just make French and English versions of the keywords and description, etc. Do other people do it this way? Is it a mistake to do it this way? Could this practice be hurting the site’s ranking somehow?

So I came to look through this thread, and I saw Julián’s posts on the subject. Duplicate URLs hadn’t occurred to me, but what he says makes sense. I wonder if anyone else has encountered problems with SEO for this reason. Or for any reason.

Yes root permissions

I have test with and without virtualdomain but nothing work.

How can be rss-feeds organized with MLP site – can user subscribe for a feed of just one language, instead getting all renditions? I haven’t tried yet, so may be silly question. Going to need them for the next site…

MLP creates separate a feed for each language, but you could create a special page where you list all feeds, so people can sign up for all languages if they want to.
