TXP on MySQL 5 --> MySQL 4 ?

anyone ever had to take a TXP installation from MySQL v5 and move it down to v4? it seems pretty daunting to me!

Re: TXP on MySQL 5 --> MySQL 4 ?

ok that was very vague, but i was just anticipating the gaggle of problems that i have now. first i had a hard time figuring out how the database gets converted – i found that you can do this “easily” on export. but then when i imported the database, my first hint that this was bad was that my main username’s password got modified. so i adjusted that. then i see that the site can’t find my css file. i’m sure the whole database is corrupt.

Re: TXP on MySQL 5 --> MySQL 4 ?

i’m sorry to spam the forum, but i’m in a pinch now. does anyone think that making a txp site on mysql v5, then trying to import it into a mysql 4 database using the mysql40 compatibility mode, is a process destined for headaches? this is all i need to know at this point. thanks!

Are you using phpmyadmin? I’m doing this operation all the time (both from v. 5 to v. 4 and from 4 to 5) and never had a problem. Consider also I do nothing in particular (no mysql40 compatibility mode). I simply export and import, nothing more.
The only problem I have to face sometimes is the one you mentioned about username and password but it’s just a minor annoyance.

do you go to 4.1, or 4.0?
apparently 4.1 is more compatible with 5 than 4.0.x is

Note that MyQL 4.1.7+ is recommended (though MySQL 3.23+ is required).

so i ended up biting the bullet and rebuilt the site on a fresh install on 4.0.x. My fingers are tired from the CTRL-C CTRL-Vs! can anyone tell me if i’m going to have trouble if the host decides to eventually upgrade the servers to 5.x?

Re: TXP on MySQL 5 --> MySQL 4 ?

I have never encountered problems with MySQL (or PHP) upgrades for existing sites.

Edit: It just crossed my mind that, though Txp will run fine on 4.0.x, there are plugins that require higher versions.

Re: TXP on MySQL 5 --> MySQL 4 ?

thanks els

so now i’m having this problem where none of my article listings are showing up off of their form. the only change now is that i started my fresh build on 4.0.8 which surely can’t be causing this problem. i turned off all my plugins and i still have the problem. this couldnt be caused by the old database could it? just about everything else on this site looks fine.

Re: TXP on MySQL 5 --> MySQL 4 ?

OKEE DOKEE! I just rebuilt the site AGAIN on my localhost to try to evaluate if the mysql 4 is causing this problem – and without even doing things meticulously, everything that wasn’t working on the mysql 4 server was working on my local 5 server. this post is in regards to the problem where articles from in the form weren’t propagating.

so i’m guessing that textpattern 4.0.8 is highly incompatible with mysql 4.0.x – i’m not sure if i should bother trying to downgrade the TXP site or just give up on this now.

Maybe you should post this in Developer Support? If it’s true they’ll need to adapt the requirements as mentioned on textpattern.com, and if something else is causing your problems the devs might be able to help you.
