Is Textpattern right for me?
Hi all.. I am new here and came across textpattern while searching for a solution.
In short I am basically looking for something to simply allow me to post ‘latest news’ or ‘announcements’ on a section of the homepage of a site I am developing. Pretty simple yes i know… but I am unfamiliar with textpattern and wanted to know:
1. can it do it this?
2. would it be relatively simple for me to insert the code onto the homepage to display what i need to display ( i.e the announcements or latest news )
Thanks in advance.

Re: Is Textpattern right for me?
Textpattern is ordinarily used as a complete website, but you can certainly install it into a subdirectory of another website. That would be the reverse of this procedure.
Relatively simple, yes, depending on your knowledge of HTML and CSS and how much customization you want to do. To get a Txp site to match the layout of an existing site would take some work.
Code is topiary

Re: Is Textpattern right for me?
jsoo you hit the nail on the head thanks.
I have installed txp already into a sub-directory and have it working properly. All I really want to do now is figure out what code i need to install on my current sites webpage in order to display the articles i will write. I am looking around for reference to try and do this but no luck yet thus far.
Thanks for the help and input

Hi
For doing what you want, i think it s better to install txp as your main website and put your static page into it,
Cheers

Re: Is Textpattern right for me?
It is well worth getting your head around TXP and I think that if can you figure out how to use it to incorporate the latest news or announcements into an existing HTML CSS based web site you will have come to realise that you are in effect trying to stand on your head when you can stand on your feet. It will save you time now if you aim to learn how to use TXP to run your whole web site including the news and announcements because that’s what it does best. This is a good reference book and there is plenty material on line to get you going. Help in this forum is good too.

Re: Is Textpattern right for me?
thanks guys and Joe you are exactly right… i did not realize how easy it is to just take my current design and make it a page to use as a template. I will play around with it more. I guess i just assumed it would be just as easy to import a few chunks of code into my existing site.
Thanks for the help!
