Define what you mean by “popular” and you might be able to make a start :-)
- Most viewed?
- Most recently viewed?
- Most searched?
- Articles with highest number of inbound links to them?
- …
In most cases, also consider how you would distinguish between articles viewed by humans and those ‘viewed’ by search engine bots (and if it matters).
