Modifying User Account Roles and Privileges, Sections, Posting

I´d like to see more flexibility in “user” admin for multi-user sites.

There are currently six predefined user roles + none (0).

I´d like to be able to define and name my own user roles from a radio button check list of possibilities.

I´d like to control which Sections a user can post in. Again from a radio button type list.

I´d like to be able to set which users articles a user can see. Probably limiting a user to see only his/her own articles most of the time, but more flexibility would open up the possibility of setting up social/work groups.

I´d also like to be able to assign individual users “posting rights”, mainly so I can have “trusted users” who can post live; or “general users” who can’t.

Thanks
Geoff

Re: Modifying User Account Roles and Privileges, Sections, Posting

This was exactly what I was about to post about. I also think that when particular users login, which may just be writers for one section, that there isn’t a huge disconnect between the main site and the login site to maintain some consistency.
So here’s what I was thinking.
1. Section/Category specific posting restrictions for specified user, maybe using a multi-select form.
2. Ability to skin admin section for particular roles.
3. Enhanced Profiles for users

Note sure about the rest, but #2 is work in progress and may one day be available in a Textpattern install near you :-) Per user/role skins are available in the plugin.

Yes, yes, yes …
There have been plenty of thoughts in the Rights and Permissions Workgroup and as far as I am concerned most of that is still relevant.
But obviously a lot of things had to be done before. I would really like to have more finetuning, especially a section/category-restriction per user.

Did you check bot_privs? Not a full privilege plugin option, just a tweaking of basic txp permissions, but it’s flexible enough and easy to use and customize.

Also, you may want to try it in bundle with rvm_privileged or the mem_ series, starting with mem_self_register.
