How do I use password protected directory under 4.0.7

Hi everyone,

I set up my site with txp 4.0.4(I think) about 2-3 years ago. I haven’t updated it since then. So I think I should, and I just did. It went rather well I think. Everything seem to work except for one small thing. After I updated it to 4.0.7. The password protected directory thing is not working anymore. You see, I am with Dreamhost, and I set up the password protected directory from the htaccess option in the panel. It’s been working flawlessly for the last 2-3 years. Now every time I try to go to a password protected directory, instead of a pop-up window asking me for the login name and password, all I got is 404 – Not Found. Any ideas?

Regards
Mudman

Re: How do I use password protected directory under 4.0.7

Hi Mudman,

I’ve previously used Jeremy Amos’s ign_password_protect plugin (albeit most recently on 4.0.6) to successfully restrict access to different sections within my site (By requiring a user to be logged in to see the content of the page which the section uses). I can share my (back-of-postage-stamp-sized) knowledge with you if nothing else comes up…

I guess 4.0.7 required a new .htaccess file.

If you do a password protection from .htaccess, then this happens before TXP comes into play, so a new version should have no effect on this.
