Blueprint.CSS is a bit silly. I can understand the various JS and PHP frameworks, but a CSS framework. Seriously?

yeah, I looked at blueprint and it feels a bit like building an elaborate skyscaper scaffolding around a single dwelling home.

The one I like is Tripoli CSS, which promotes itself as “a CSS standard for HTML rendering”, and not a framework.
I’ve used it a few times on a few projects and what I like about it is that it doesn’t get in the middle.

Agreed.
I tried project 7 layout generators before and I didnt think dev time was decreased if i was bolting an original design onto it. I think any grid system will affect the design on some level. I will check out tripoli though maniqui.

When I took a look at it, the Blueprint CSS had a steep learning curve. I would have to buy in to all the naming conventions and have a pretty good handle of what stuff was already taken care of in the frame work. This is a bit counter-intuitive to my work flow. Builing my own foundation helps me visualize what happens next. While it might be a pain to work with at first, I do see the benefit of Blueprint once you had enough experience with it. But by that time, you might as well develop your own framework that would suit you best.
On the other hand, the 960 Grid System is pretty easy to open up and get a hang of. It’s developed by TXPer Nathan Smith, so you know it has to be awesome. I’ve started building my own variation of a grid system from Nathan’s work.

I’m still baffled by the CSS framework concept. As developers, we try to lean our code as much as possible, and occasionally, but not often, re-use identical code for each individual projects. These css frameworks though, they breed bloat…
