Filter by custom fields

I have two custom fields: “issue” and “author.”

Beneath the search form, I’d like to have a checkbox for “search current issue only” and limit the search results by the most recent “issue” value.

Then, somewhere else I’d like to have another search form that searches the “author” custom field.

How can I do this with Textpattern?

Have a look at chs_if_urlvar or smd_if.
