subscribe to comments plugin? Another (better) CAPTCHA plugin?
Hi all, I went to the plugin site and was looking for a plugin that allows you to subscribe to comments like WordPress. For of those of you not familiar, what it does is that when you post a comment, you have the option of subscribing to comments. If someone replies or adds another comment, you get an email. (It’s similar to “subscribe to topic” in this forum.) Does such a plugin exist for textpattern?
Secondly, in the plugin site there was only a single CAPTCHA plugin. I find it hard to believe that such a popular CMS system only has one CAPTCHA plugin. Surely there are more? If not, is it any good. This is the plugin:

no but a discussion regarding the comment system is ongoing within this forum

would this be because txp is a much safer cms? Unlike wp, txp only suffered limited successful hack attacks and those security holes close as fast as they are discovered. The compulsory preview before comment submits and their moderation by a lot of site admins also make captcha superfluous. Where I could see it being of use is in the ZCR forms as an alternative to the spam deterrent check box.

Personally I’ve found that there is no need for CAPTCHA with Textpattern. The forced preview on comments works really well at stopping spam. I have had more spam comments on site’s using CAPTCHA than with Textpattern so I wouldn’t worry about it.

– do you mind pointing me to the link to the “ongoing discussion about comments”?
I also disagree about the solution of comment moderation to stop spam. (1) You still get robot spam (in wordpress at least). The point is to stop having to read it/moderate it altogether. (2) Why is comment moderation enabled in the first place? If you want to build a community around your blog, I’ve found that comment moderation “squelches” that community spirit. HOWEVER, this is an opinion — I’m not picking a fight. It would be nice if textpattern gave you the opportunity to choose, though.
@monkey – so the forced preview stops (robot) spam? Great, I hope so. I’ve been meaning to try TXP out. I already use textile for everything I write, have textile plugins for drupal and wordpress, i’ve been thinking it’s finally time to make the switch to textpattern, but the comment system has been holding me back…

Here is a recent one

I’m yet to hear of robot spam on txp.

moderation for comments is optional. You can change it in Admin>Preferences>Moderate comments
