More blog layout issues

Hello everyone. Here’s the scenario. You have 2 divs floating left and set to display inline inside a container div. The first div is shorter than the second div which holds the blog content. Since the second div is dynamic in height since it is a blog and flows past the first div holding the navigation.. how would one get the blog articles in the second div to flow downwards properly instead of sliding to the left underneath the first shorter div?

I’ve played around with this myself for quite a while, finally realising that since none of the containers on my page have a set height since this is a blog and needs to have a liquid layout.. I can’t simply set the height of the navigation to 100%. At this point I cannot fathom away to accomplish this so that it works in both netscape browsers and IE. Please helpf if you can. Thanks.

Do you need the left float for the 2nd div then?

Re: More blog layout issues

Isn’t there already topic for this same issue, so please keep this in a one simple topic :D

And back to the cure. In that previous topic I explained that you could use faux columns -method. Did you Google it or anything? If not, there is great Alistapart faux column article, ideal for newbies (written in way that anyone can understand) :)

Re: More blog layout issues

Hey Gocom. I didn’t think I explained it well enough last time so thats why I tried again. As far as the faux columns.. I did read up on that after you suggested it but I was hoping there must be a better way than to HAVE to add a vertically repeating background image as the only solution. I really don’t want to do that because there is already a vertically repeating background as part of the design behind it. Since my layout is not absolutely positioned, even adding the exact same background to my navigation as what is behind it would cause problems. Any other thoughts on this?

Re: More blog layout issues

Els.. actually the second div is not set to float left. Sorry, I know I said it was. Floating it left makes it jump all the way down and below the first div so I did not do that.

Re: More blog layout issues

What if you set a left margin for the second div? (It’s a bit difficult without a link…)
