"Create thumbnail" section in admin is missing

I have been running tp for a while on my personal server, and when I upload images to tp, after clicking the “Upload” button, I get a page that has 4 sections (word section is in non-tp sense, but old-fashinon sense):

1. image preview
2. thumbnail preview
3. create thumbnail with width, height, crop inputs
4. Image name with category, alt, and caption

But when I installed a tp on another server, this “Create thumbnail” part is not there; everything else is. So the user has to manually resize the image and upload a differently sized thumbnail separately. It’s lots of extra work that requires image editor.

Any idea why the create thumbnail section is gone? The problematic server is Apache running on linux (may be Fedora, not sure). The one where it works is MediaTemple shared hosting. Is the server missing a php extension of some sort. Any idea which one would that be? I could not find anything about this by searching.

Thanks.

Hi

That happen when a php extention GD is not installed, check the diagnotic tab and see if GD extention is listed or not.

Cheers

Hmmm.. Yes actually. When I compared phpinfo() of the two servers, the one where it’s not working does not have the GD extension. The one where it works has it.

Thanks very much!
