Multi-Site Patch
I have developed a patch that enables one to run multiple Textpattern sites form a single shared installation of the Textpattern code. It also separates the admin area into its own subdomain, which some may find desirable from a security perspective. I initially created the patch based off of Textpattern v4.0.5 and have been running sites in production for over a year with this code. I recently updated it for 4.0.6 and now for 4.0.7. My intent is to submit these changes for inclusion into core for 4.0.8. Before doing that, I would love to have some folks try it out in order to flush out any issues or problems that I may have missed.
I need folks interested in trying one or both of the following usage scenarios:
1. Apply the patch to a currently running installation. It should run just as it did before with no discernible differences. This scenario is very important to test, as it is critical that the patch not break existing installations.
2. Apply the patch to a fresh Textpattern install and follow the included instructions for taking advantage of the multi-site capability to create multiple sites from a single shared installation.
If you are interested in helping out, please post a reply to this thread and I will get in touch.
Thanks!

Why not make the patch available publicly?

Hi Ruud. I initially posted about this patch to the dev mailing list and got no response, so was unsure if there was much interest. Also, I’d like to gather some feedback before making it more widely available.

I did see the offer being made, but not the actual patch.

Right, I said :
If this sounds like something you would like to see integrated into
the core release, please let me know. I will work to minimize the
changes required and forward them to you.
But I never heard back…

I too would like to test this. Sounds ideal for a project I’ll be starting next year.
