Re: how to style a category with multipe blogs and sections.... help

Sorry Els, I’ve had issues and in order to meet some time constraints cut some corners. I never was able to get the sections and categories to show correctly. I had them mixed and still don’t understand how to display them. I believe, correct me if I’m wrong here, but should categories be handled in forms?

I’ve never used categories or events before and using zem_event I’m now able to get the site to do some of them, but I’m not completely digesting how they work together. Usually I have 1-4 forms for display, one page for the HP so It can look different since there is one view, and then 1 page for all my content using the forms to control the view. I remember in some instances declaring section conditions, but never with categories. I’ll try figuring out the whole section/categories/events and how to show them eventually.

I’m sorry, but it looks like I don’t understand your setup well enough to help you out here. Have a look at the links under ‘Related reading’ on this TextBook page, the articles will help you understand how all these Textpattern ‘building blocks’ work.
Don’t hesitate to post again if you have more questions.

Re: how to style a category with multipe blogs and sections.... help

Els,
Just wanted to say thanks for the help. I’ve got the site running, though work still needs to be done. Categories are just new to me, and this is the first time I’ve used them. I’ve got them working but somewhere I read that it’s suggested to either use Sections or Categories, and I’ve used both and intermingled them. For instance, if I created a section named Camps I also created a category named camp, then add the other camps to that category. This way I can check to see what section I’m on to keep it highlighted, but also to display the Categories. The issue I’m running into is that sometimes i get links that say /category and think that’s happening because of how i’m displaying the content.

But again, thank you for taking the time to help me out. I’m still getting acquainted but this community has been wonderful.

Cheers.

Good :)

I’ve never seen this suggestion, and using both just offers more ways to organize your content. It all depends on your needs. It’s quite possible that when you are getting more familiar with Textpattern you will think of better ways to do things. Over the years I have re-structured several sites because of this ;)

Just stay with us for a while and you’ll find that Txp itself is equally wonderful :)

TXP rocks! Put that on a shirt! The only thing I’d love to build for TXP now is a Dreamweaver Extension. I know many may shrug at this, but it would be sooo awesome to have. I love TXP.
