Magazine Website
I think the following website that I recently designed does a nice job of displaying Textpattern’s capabilties. I hope you agree.
For those interested, the following plug ins were used to add additional functionality:
- art_meta_description
- asy_wondertag
- cab_social
- cbs_category_list
- chh_article_lib
- chh_related_articles
- glz_custom_fields
- kgr_safe_excerpt
- lam_accordion_section
- rah_metas
- ras_if_dates
- rss_admin_show_adv_opts
- sed_copyright
- sed_plugin_library
- smd_gallery
- smd_lib
- smd_slimbox
- tru_tags
- upm_datetime
- upm_img_popper
- upm_savenew
- wet_article_thumb
- wet_peex
- wet_quicklink
- zem_article_info
- zem_contact_lang
- zem_contact_reborn
Thank you for all the above developers who have enhanced Textpattern’s core capabilities.
I look forward to your feedback.

It’d be cool if you could post what each plugin does, and what you use it for, cheers. x

Re: Magazine Website
Nice one progre55, I see you found a cool slideshow script to use to deliver the main front page block. Very smart, I’ll have to see where you got it as I need something like that for a site.
Are you still using both slimbox and gallery?!
One thing I don’t quite get on the navbar: if I click, say “contacts”, then go back and hover over the navbar, the links to some of the other items (archives, c2 cliques, free stuff, advertise, partners) point to http://www.celebratehiltonhead.com/contact/ as well, but it renders an empty page. All the sub-menu items go to the correct content but if you click the heading itself in the navbar it doesn’t go to the relevant index page or whatever.
Same thing happens on other pages (e.g. the contact card page). Hover over the navbar and look at the links. A lot of them point to http://www.celebratehiltonhead.com/hilton-head-local-card/ which is blank if you click it.
But other than that, the layout works quite well. Good stuff.

Re: Magazine Website
Thanks for the replies:
Driz: When I have a moment (in the next couple of days) I will list out their functions as they relate to the website.
Bloke:
For the slideshow I am using Front Page Slideshow It was a snap to set up and integrate into Textpattern. Unfortunately, it is not fully integrated using your plug in (yet). So if you do go this direction, please let me know.
Regarding the nav bar, thanks for the catch. What happened is that I had blank section tags for those items because I have yet to create landing pages for some of the overall “categories.” I have changed it so that if someone selects the top navigation (instead of the dropdown menue) they will now go somewhere. Thanks again.

Re: Magazine Website
That’s quite a complex site powered by Txp! Very cool!
Could you give more information on the member’s area and which plugins you use for that?

Re: Magazine Website
Driz:
Here is goes and hope this helps. For this list below, I am going to stick with why I used the plug in, for full and specific plug in functionality, I would suggest visting Textpattern Resources
- art_meta_description: Did not use, see Rah Metas instead.
- asy_wondertag: Tags within Tags :)
- cab_social: On the magazine article pages, I was looking for a plug in that enabled the visitors to link the articles they enjoyed to their various social networking sites.
- cbs_category_list: Enabled me to produce easy and flexable category lists.
- chh_article_lib: See entry below.
- chh_related_articles: I needed a plug, for the magazine articles page, that pulled (based on predefined criteria) similar articles that may be interesting to the reader.
- glz_custom_fields: This plug in gives unlimited control for the custom fields. This is valuable when designing a site that is user friendly for your client. In addition to unlimited custom fields, you can assign styles to the fields (ie drop down) which goes straight to the heart of creating a user friendly interface. I did not use its front end functionality for this site.
- kgr_safe_excerpt: I prefer this to TXP excerpt code when needing to produce the start or teaser for items ….
- lam_accordion_section: With a complex site, this helped me organize the sections tab so that by default the section tree is not so long.
- rah_metas: Enabled me to make the site search engine friendly by filling in meta tag information based on the article contents
- ras_if_dates: I needed a plug in to help create the magazine cover area.
- rss_admin_show_adv_opts: Used for the customer to make data input easier bu showing all fiels on the article tab.
- sed_copyright: Initially I wanted to have an automatic copyright line added to all the articles. Although I have this installed, I changed my mindset so it is not active.
- smd_gallery: Tremendously flexable image gallery.
- smd_lib: Used for the above.
- smd_slimbox: USed in the old version of the website.
- tru_tags: I think this is being built into the next version of TXP, but I needed the ability for client to Tag articles and create tag clouds.
- upm_datetime: Used on all my projects to spit out date and time. Used not only in footer, but also to create archives.
- upm_img_popper: Used to make client data input easier by placing a link on articles page so client can easily attach images.
- upm_savenew: Used to make it easier for client to copy an existing article to create a new entry.
- wet_article_thumb: Assisted me when needed to link thumbnails to articles.
- wet_peex: Needed for below plug in.
- wet_quicklink: Installed, but not used yet in the project. Looks very cool, but need time to implement.
- zem_article_info: I needed a plugin to tell me how many words were in eacch article.
- zem_contact_lang: Needed for below plug in.
- zem_contact_reborn: Necessary to create useful forms in TXP.
If you want more specifics on a particular plug in, or need assistance (since many of these I have used in other porojects) please give a shout.
Si:
I am not sure what you mean by members area. If you are referring to loyalty members, then I need to let you know that this area of the site (which is actaually a completely seperate site) was custom programmed. TXP does have some limitations :) and the member’s area in this case is one of them.
For a member’s area, I would suggest looking at How to build a Client section on your website?
If you mean the client/customer area (backend) see the above list, but definitely investigate glz_custom_fields and upm_img_popper.

Re: Magazine Website
@progre55
It’s looking good. Are you using anything special on the after dark page? Also when I click on a link for any of the venues on that page such as this the page sort of blows out.
see screen here
I’m in Charleston you must be pretty close, are you in Hilton Head?

Re: Magazine Website
soulship:
Thanks for the heads up. I was referencing the code from this site recently for another project and must have accidently added an extra </div> tag to one of the forms which was throwing everything off.
Yes, I am on Hilton Head. So we are pretty close.
Nothing special on the After Dark Page.
